About KDL

We don't build students.
We build a hive.

KDL Combatives is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and self-defense gym for everyday adults in Valparaiso, Indiana, led by two black belts. No egos, no spectators, just a room full of people making each other harder to beat.

The Instructors

Two black belts. One room.

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the black belt who leads the room is your professor. At KDL you train under two, and both are on the mat with you.

Keith D. Loudenber

Tuesday & Thursday, 6:30–8:00 PM

Keith D. Loudenber is the head instructor at KDL Combatives and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. He runs the Tuesday and Thursday evening classes, where beginners and experienced students train in the same room. He also keeps bees, and the hive idea that runs through this gym is his: everyone works, the new ones are looked after, nobody coasts. If it's your first night, he's the one who gets you squared away.

Keith Wilson

Wednesday 8:30 AM & Saturday 9:00 AM open mat

Keith Wilson is an instructor at KDL Combatives and a black belt. He teaches the Wednesday morning class and runs the Saturday open mat, the looser session where the week's work gets put to the test. Same program, same standards: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and practical self-defense for adults, taught so you can actually use it. Show up on a Saturday and you'll find him on the mat.

Why The Hive

A single bee doesn't survive the week.

A hive builds, defends and outlasts the winter because every bee does its job for the colony. The new ones are protected while they learn. The strong ones build the place up and guard the door. Nobody coasts, nobody gets carried, everybody works.

That is how we train. The white belt who walked in nervous last week is looked after by the people ahead of them, and the experienced students sharpen the room instead of feeding their ego on it. You're not a customer here, you're part of the colony. Rep it off the mats too: team shirts and stickers are in.

The hive defends its own
